Apple has rolled out iOS 26.5 with several useful upgrades for iPhone users. The latest update introduces improvements to three major apps, including Messages, Apple Maps, and the App Store. These additions focus on better communication, smarter navigation, and flexible subscription options.
Messages App Gets Encrypted RCS Support
The biggest update in the Messages app is support for end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging in beta. RCS has already become a popular option for conversations between iPhone and Android users because it offers features beyond traditional SMS.
With the new iOS 26.5 update, Apple is improving privacy for green bubble chats. End-to-end encryption means messages stay secure and can only be viewed by the sender and receiver. This brings RCS closer to the secure experience already available through iMessage.
The feature is still in beta, but it marks an important step for cross-platform messaging on iPhones.
Apple Maps Adds Suggested Places Feature
Apple Maps has also received a new search enhancement called “Suggested Places.”
Now, whenever users tap the search bar, the app automatically displays two recommended locations. These suggestions are generated using several factors, including nearby trending spots, recent searches, and other personalized data.
The feature aims to help users discover useful places faster without making the interface feel crowded. Apple may later introduce promoted businesses inside these recommendation slots, though the current experience remains focused on convenience and discovery.
App Store Introduces Flexible Subscription Plans
App Store is getting a new subscription payment option in iOS 26.5. Developers can now offer annual subscriptions divided into 12 monthly payments.
Apple describes this plan as a “monthly with 12-month commitment” option. It combines the lower monthly cost of standard subscriptions with the discounted pricing usually reserved for yearly plans.
The new system could encourage more users to commit to long-term subscriptions without paying the full yearly amount upfront.
However, Apple confirmed that this feature is currently unavailable in the United States and Singapore. Users in other regions can begin accessing the new payment option through supported apps.
iOS 26.5 Focuses on Everyday Convenience
The latest iPhone update may not completely redesign iOS, but it introduces practical features that improve daily use. Better messaging security, smarter location discovery, and more flexible subscriptions make iOS 26.5 a meaningful update for many iPhone users.
