Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has officially launched the new Xiaomi 17 Max with a massive 8,000mAh battery and Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The smartphone arrives as a premium flagship focused on battery endurance, gaming performance, and multimedia capabilities for heavy users in 2026.
The device was unveiled during Xiaomi’s May 2026 launch event alongside the Xiaomi YU7 GT, Xiaomi Band 10 Pro, and Xiaomi Ear Clip TWS.
Xiaomi 17 Max Brings Premium Design
The Xiaomi 17 Max follows a design language similar to the Xiaomi 15 series. It features a flat display with slim and symmetrical bezels, while the rear panel also adopts a flat finish. Xiaomi has used a large Leica-branded camera module on the back, giving the phone a premium flagship appearance.
The smartphone measures 8.2mm in thickness and weighs 225 grams. Despite the large battery, Xiaomi has managed to maintain a relatively slim profile for a flagship device.
Large OLED Display With 120Hz Refresh Rate
The phone sports a 6.9-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2608 × 1200 pixels. It supports an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz for smoother animations and better battery efficiency.
The panel also delivers up to 3,500 nits peak brightness and supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HDR Vivid technologies. Xiaomi has protected the screen with Dragon Crystal 3.0 glass.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Powers the Device
Xiaomi has equipped the 17 Max with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor built on a 3nm architecture. The smartphone is available with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.1 storage.
The device runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 and includes several AI-powered software features aimed at gaming, productivity, and photography enhancements.
Massive 8,000mAh Battery Takes Center Stage
Battery life is the main highlight of the Xiaomi 17 Max. The smartphone packs a huge 8,000mAh battery, making it one of the largest batteries seen in a flagship smartphone.
It supports 100W wired fast charging along with 22.5W wired reverse charging. Xiaomi says the phone is designed for gamers, travelers, and users who consume heavy multimedia content throughout the day.
Leica Cameras Aim for Flagship Photography
The Xiaomi 17 Max features a triple rear camera setup tuned by Leica Camera. The system includes a 200MP Samsung HP9 primary sensor with optical image stabilization, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide camera offering a 102-degree field of view.
On the front, the smartphone houses a 32MP selfie camera for video calls and selfies.
Pricing and Availability
The Xiaomi 17 Max starts at CNY 4,799, which is roughly Rs. 67,800, for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant. Xiaomi is also offering higher-end versions with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.
The smartphone is currently available for pre-orders in China and will officially go on sale from May 25. Buyers can choose from Pixel Black, Sky Blue, and White color options.
Xiaomi has not confirmed global availability yet. Reports suggest the Xiaomi 17 Max could remain exclusive to the Chinese market, while the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and standard Xiaomi 17 continue expanding globally.
