Samsung appears to be preparing one of the biggest visual changes to its Ultra lineup in years. Fresh leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra point to a wide horizontal camera bar replacing the familiar individual camera rings used on recent Galaxy Ultra phones. The redesign could also be tied to a major wireless-charging upgrade.

The leaked CAD-style images reportedly show more than a cosmetic makeover. A redesigned camera layout, possible removal of the dedicated 3x telephoto camera, and built-in magnetic charging support are all being linked to Samsung’s next flagship. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to arrive in early 2027, but these details remain unofficial.

Samsung Could Finally Abandon Its Signature Camera Layout

The biggest change is immediately visible on the rear panel. Instead of placing each camera in separate circular rings, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly moving to a broad horizontal camera bar stretching across the upper portion of the phone.

Images shared by leakers including Ice Universe and Sonny Dickson have fueled the latest reports. The design appears substantially different from the Galaxy S26 Ultra and could become Samsung’s most noticeable flagship redesign in several generations.

The shape has naturally triggered comparisons with the iPhone 17 Pro. However, Samsung would not technically be the first Android manufacturer to use a wide rear camera plateau. Similar approaches have appeared on other smartphones, including Google Pixel and Xiaomi models.

Why Samsung May Be Changing the Camera Bar

There could be more to the redesign than aesthetics. One of the strongest theories is that Samsung is reorganizing the internal hardware to make room for native magnetic Qi2 wireless charging.

The leaked rear design appears to show a circular area associated with a magnetic ring. If accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could finally allow compatible magnetic accessories to attach directly to the phone rather than requiring a special magnetic case.

That would be a meaningful change for Galaxy users. Samsung has supported Qi2-related wireless charging functionality, but its recent Ultra phones have not offered the same built-in magnetic accessory experience associated with Apple’s MagSafe ecosystem.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Camera Setup Could Lose a Lens

The redesign comes alongside another major camera rumor. Samsung may reportedly remove the dedicated 3x telephoto camera from the Ultra model.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra uses four rear cameras, including a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 5x telephoto and 10MP 3x telephoto. Current Galaxy S27 Ultra leaks suggest Samsung could move to three rear cameras instead.

That would be a notable departure for the Ultra series, which has maintained multiple telephoto cameras since the Galaxy S21 Ultra generation.

Current reports point toward a 200MP primary camera accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 5x telephoto camera.

The 3x unit could disappear completely, while Samsung focuses more heavily on improving the remaining 5x system and the main sensor. Some reports also suggest a next-generation ultrawide camera and possible variable-aperture technology.

The move could actually make sense from a photography perspective if Samsung significantly improves image processing and the main camera’s ability to handle intermediate zoom levels. But users who regularly rely on native 3x optical zoom may see the change as a downgrade.

Two Galaxy S27 Ultra Sizes?

Perhaps the strangest part of the latest leak is the suggestion that Samsung could offer the Ultra in two different sizes.

Sonny Dickson reportedly shared dummy molds showing two devices with different dimensions, while Ice Universe indicated that the button and camera-island positioning also differs between the two models.

However, this claim needs considerably more caution than the camera redesign. Samsung could instead be preparing a separate Galaxy S27 Pro, which has also been rumored as a smaller flagship positioned below the Ultra.

Some reports have already raised this possibility, meaning the two leaked bodies do not necessarily prove that Samsung will sell two Ultra phones.

The Galaxy S27 Pro Could Explain Everything

A smaller Galaxy S27 Pro has increasingly become part of the 2027 Galaxy lineup rumors. It could borrow several Ultra-level features while using a smaller body and fewer cameras.

That would make more sense commercially than producing two nearly identical Ultra models. Samsung could potentially use the Pro to challenge compact flagship phones while keeping the full-size Ultra as its premium camera-focused device.

For now, though, the exact relationship between the two leaked sizes remains unclear.

Samsung May Be Making Room for Bigger Hardware

A redesigned camera island can also change how Samsung uses internal space.

Reports have suggested that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could receive a larger battery, with one recent rumor pointing toward a rated capacity around 5,534mAh, potentially translating to a marketed capacity in the 5,700mAh range depending on Samsung’s specifications.

If Samsung combines a redesigned internal layout, a larger battery and native magnetic charging, the rear redesign could have a practical purpose rather than simply being an attempt to refresh the phone’s appearance.

What This Means for Samsung’s Flagship Strategy

The Galaxy S27 Ultra could represent a broader shift in Samsung’s approach. Instead of simply increasing camera count, the company may be concentrating on fewer but more capable sensors while redesigning the phone around wireless charging and accessories.

That would also explain why the removal of the 3x telephoto is appearing alongside the camera-bar rumors. Samsung may be prioritizing sensor quality, internal space and accessory compatibility over maintaining four separate rear cameras.

Still, removing a camera from an Ultra phone will be closely watched. The Ultra branding has traditionally been associated with having the most complete camera hardware Samsung can offer.
