Huawei has officially introduced its new nova 16 series, bringing major upgrades in camera technology, battery size, and connectivity features. The lineup includes the Huawei nova 16 and nova 16 Pro, both designed to refresh the mid-range segment with flagship-style features.
The new generation focuses heavily on photography improvements, larger batteries, and faster performance, while also introducing satellite messaging support across both models.
Huawei nova 16 Pro: Big Camera Upgrade with 200MP Sensor
The nova 16 Pro is the most advanced model in the series and highlights a strong focus on mobile photography.
It features a 200MP main camera using a large 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS support. This setup is designed to improve low-light performance and overall detail.
Alongside it, there is a 50MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus, allowing macro shots from as close as 7cm.
The standout feature is the 50MP telephoto camera, also based on RYYB technology. It supports 3.7x optical zoom and includes OIS for sharper long-range shots. This is a noticeable upgrade compared to the previous generation.
On the front, the Pro model carries a 50MP selfie camera inside a pill-shaped cutout. It also includes a spectral sensor for improved color accuracy.
Display and Design
The nova 16 Pro comes with a 6.84-inch LTPO OLED display featuring a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It supports a 1,320 × 2,856 resolution with 10-bit color depth.
The screen also uses 2,160Hz PWM dimming for eye comfort and is protected by Kunlun glass.
Design-wise, the Pro continues its unique “spectacles-style” camera layout, which gives it a distinctive look in the mid-range market.
Huawei nova 16: Balanced but Powerful
The standard nova 16 offers a slightly smaller 6.68-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,280 × 2,800 resolution. It uses standard aluminosilicate glass protection.
Camera performance is slightly reduced compared to the Pro but still impressive. It includes:
- 50MP main camera (f/1.9, no OIS)
- 50MP RYYB telephoto camera with 3.3x optical zoom and OIS
- 50MP front camera in a punch-hole design
The telephoto system remains a strong point, offering better zoom performance than previous nova models.
Performance, Battery, and Charging
Both the nova 16 and nova 16 Pro are powered by the Kirin 9010S chipset, the same processor used in the previous Pro generation.
They also share identical memory configurations:
- 12GB RAM standard across all models
- Storage options: 256GB, 512GB, and up to 1TB (Pro only)
Battery life is a major highlight, with both phones packing a massive 7,000mAh battery. They support 100W fast charging, but wireless charging is not included.
Connectivity and Features
The nova 16 series brings modern connectivity upgrades, including:
- 5G support
- Wi-Fi 7 (dual-band)
- Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC and L2HC
- StarFlash wireless technology
- NFC support
- Satellite messaging via BeiDou system
For navigation, both devices support dual-band GPS along with tri-band BeiDou and Galileo systems.
However, the USB-C port is limited to USB 2.0, and water resistance remains IP65, meaning protection against water jets but not full submersion.
Both models also switch to a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of an under-display scanner.
