Apple is reportedly preparing major artificial intelligence upgrades for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 ahead of its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference. According to Mark Gurman, the next-generation software update will introduce a standalone Siri application along with improved AI-powered writing features and redesigned Shortcuts tools.
The annual WWDC 2026 is officially scheduled to begin on June 8, where Apple is expected to showcase its latest software innovations.
Standalone Siri App in Development
One of the biggest reported additions is a dedicated Siri app designed to function similarly to AI chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude. The new app is said to act as a central hub for handling various tasks through conversational AI.
The upgraded Siri experience could reportedly store previous conversations, allowing users to continue chats more naturally. Apple is also expected to focus heavily on privacy by offering an ad-free experience and automatically deleting conversations after a certain period.
Apple Balances AI Features With Privacy
The report claims Apple delayed its advanced AI assistant plans because of the company’s strict privacy policies. Instead of relying entirely on third-party systems, Apple has allegedly been developing its own Apple Foundation Models to process user requests securely.
However, more demanding AI tasks may still rely on Google Gemini models. This means some advanced processing could take place using Google’s AI infrastructure while Apple continues emphasizing user data protection.
New AI Writing Features Across iOS 27
Apple is also expected to introduce more powerful AI writing tools throughout the operating system. These features could offer smarter grammar correction, sentence suggestions, and writing improvements beyond the current Apple Intelligence capabilities.
A new “Write With Siri” option is reportedly being tested for the keyboard interface. The feature may provide real-time writing suggestions and highlight grammar mistakes while users type.
Users would reportedly be able to accept or reject suggested edits and quickly move between flagged sections of text. Another feature called “Help Me Write” may appear whenever Siri is activated inside a text field.
Shortcuts App Getting Major AI Upgrade
The Shortcuts app is also expected to receive a major redesign with AI integration. According to the report, users may soon create automated actions simply by describing tasks in natural language.
Apple is also said to be testing AI-generated wallpapers along with new editing tools inside the Photos app. These additions could further expand Apple’s push into generative AI features across its ecosystem.
