Motorola has officially entered the book-style foldable smartphone segment with the launch of the Motorola Razr Fold. While the company was among the first brands to embrace foldable technology through its Razr flip series, this marks its first attempt at competing directly with premium foldable devices such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup and Google’s Pixel Fold series.
Motorola Expands Beyond Flip Foldables
Motorola made an early move into the foldable market with the Razr 2019, arriving around the same period as Samsung’s first Galaxy Z Flip. However, unlike Samsung, which introduced book-style foldables years ago, Motorola focused primarily on flip devices before finally unveiling its larger foldable offering.
The Razr Fold is now available across several major markets, including Europe, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Canada.
Large Displays Designed for Productivity
One of the Razr Fold’s standout features is its dual-display setup. The outer screen measures 6.6 inches and uses an LTPO panel with Full HD+ resolution and a smooth 165Hz refresh rate.
Inside, users get a spacious 8.1-inch LTPO folding display with a nearly square aspect ratio and support for refresh rates up to 120Hz. Motorola has also enabled support for the Moto Pen Ultra stylus on both screens, adding productivity-focused functionality.
Powerful Hardware and Massive Battery
The Razr Fold is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. Although it does not use the Elite version of the processor, it still targets flagship-level performance.
Battery capacity is another area where Motorola aims to stand out. The device packs a large 6,000mAh battery, significantly larger than many competing foldables. It supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, making it one of the fastest-charging premium foldables currently available.
Triple 50MP Camera Setup
Photography is another key selling point of the Razr Fold. The device features a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilization and a large sensor for improved low-light performance.
It is joined by a 50MP periscope telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. For selfies and video calls, Motorola includes a 32MP front camera on the cover display and a 20MP camera inside the foldable screen.
Durable Design With Water Protection
Motorola has equipped the Razr Fold with IP48/IP49 certification, providing protection against water exposure and submersion.
The handset measures 10.1mm when folded and weighs 243 grams. This places it between Samsung’s lighter Galaxy Z Fold devices and Google’s heavier Pixel Fold models in terms of portability.
Competition Remains Intense
While Samsung and Google dominate the foldable segment in North America, customers in Europe and India have more alternatives to choose from. Devices such as Honor’s Magic V series continue to offer strong competition, particularly in markets where Chinese manufacturers have a larger presence.
As a result, Motorola enters a crowded premium category where hardware alone may not guarantee success.
Premium Pricing Raises Questions
The Motorola Razr Fold launches at approximately €2,000, £1,800, INR 150,000, $1,900, and CAD 2,700. Although its pricing is slightly below some competing foldables at launch, it remains firmly positioned in the ultra-premium segment.
With flagship specifications, a large battery, advanced cameras, and stylus support, Motorola appears to have built a strong contender. However, the real question is whether consumers are willing to choose the Razr Fold over established rivals from Samsung and Google.
