Oppo Reportedly Testing 100MP Square Selfie Camera for Advanced Dynamic Framing

Chinese smartphone maker Oppo is reportedly exploring a major upgrade for smartphone selfie cameras. According to a new leak, the company is testing a 100MP front-facing camera with a unique 1:1 square sensor design, potentially bringing advanced dynamic framing features to future flagship devices.

The information comes from well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, who shared the details on Weibo. The leak specifically mentions that a “100MP 1:1 front camera” is currently under evaluation, although no additional technical specifications were revealed.

Oppo Could Bring Apple-Style Center Framing to Android

The report has sparked speculation that Oppo may be working on a feature similar to the “Center Stage” technology introduced by Apple on the iPhone 17 lineup. Apple’s implementation uses a square-format selfie sensor to intelligently keep users centered during video calls and recordings.

If Oppo’s rumored technology becomes reality, it could offer significantly higher image quality thanks to the massive 100MP resolution. The additional pixels may allow the camera to crop, track, and reframe subjects without sacrificing detail.

AI-Powered Features May Play a Major Role

Industry observers believe Oppo could combine the new hardware with AI-based subject tracking and framing algorithms. This would potentially improve video calls, livestreams, and content creation for social media users.

The square sensor format may also provide more flexibility for dynamic cropping, helping users stay within the frame even while moving. Such technology could be especially useful for vloggers and creators producing both short-form and long-form video content.

Leak Still Unconfirmed

At this stage, Oppo has not officially confirmed the existence of the rumored 100MP selfie camera project. As a result, the information should be treated as an early leak rather than finalized product details.

Still, if the company moves forward with the technology, it could mark a significant shift for Android smartphone photography and push selfie camera innovation beyond the standard 50MP sensors currently common in premium devices.

More details are expected to surface in the coming weeks as additional leaks and reports emerge.
