Lenovo Re-Enters Smartphone Market With New Legion Y70 Gaming Phone

Lenovo has officially returned to the smartphone market with the launch of the new Lenovo Legion Y70. The device marks Lenovo’s first smartphone released under its own branding since the Legion Y90 arrived in 2022.

The new Legion Y70 is designed for gamers and power users. It combines flagship-level hardware, a massive battery, and advanced cooling features to deliver high-end mobile gaming performance.

Display and Design

The Lenovo Legion Y70 features a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for improved colors and contrast. Lenovo also claims the display can reach up to 7,000 nits of peak brightness.

The phone comes in two color options, including Ice Soul White and Carbon Black. Lenovo has also kept the gaming-focused design simple and modern compared to many aggressive-looking gaming phones.

Performance and Storage

Powering the Legion Y70 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, built on a 3nm process. The chipset is paired with LPDDR5X RAM running at speeds up to 9,600Mbps.

Lenovo is offering multiple storage and memory variants. Buyers can choose between 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, 12GB RAM with 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 512GB storage. A top-end model with up to 1TB storage is also available.

To maintain stable gaming performance, Lenovo has added a large 5,500mm² vapor chamber cooling system. According to the company, the setup can reduce CPU temperatures by up to 7 degrees Celsius during heavy usage.

Camera Setup

The Legion Y70 includes a 50MP primary rear camera with optical image stabilization and a large 1/1.56-inch sensor. The main camera uses an f/1.8 aperture for improved low-light photography.

It is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide camera with autofocus support. Lenovo says the ultrawide lens can focus as close as 2.5cm for macro-style shots.

On the front, the phone features a 32MP selfie camera for video calls and social media content.

Battery and Charging

One of the biggest highlights of the Legion Y70 is its large 8,000mAh battery. The device supports 90W wired fast charging for quicker top-ups.

Lenovo has also included bypass charging support. This feature allows the phone to draw power directly from the charger while gaming, helping reduce battery heat and long-term battery wear.

Price and Availability

The Lenovo Legion Y70 starts at around $450, making it a competitive option in the premium gaming smartphone category.
