Weekly Poll: Xiaomi 17T Series Faces Backlash Over Higher Prices Despite Feature Upgrades

Xiaomi’s latest 17T series has received a mixed reaction from smartphone enthusiasts, according to the results of a recent weekly poll. While users appreciated several hardware improvements, the significant price increase appears to have overshadowed many of the upgrades.

Price Hike Emerges as the Biggest Concern

The most common complaint among voters was the €100 price increase across the Xiaomi 17T lineup. Many respondents felt the higher pricing made the devices less attractive, especially when competing smartphones offer similar or better specifications in the same price range.

Despite the criticism, poll results suggest that a future price reduction could substantially improve the appeal of both models.

Xiaomi 17T Wins Praise for Compact Design

One of the standout changes in the Xiaomi 17T is its smaller form factor. The device features a 6.59-inch display, making it noticeably more compact than both its predecessor and the larger Xiaomi 17T Pro, which carries a 6.83-inch panel.

Interestingly, very few voters viewed the smaller screen as a drawback. Instead, many appreciated the more manageable size, especially when paired with the phone’s large 6,500mAh battery.

Camera and Battery Upgrades Receive Positive Feedback

The Xiaomi 17T also earned praise for its upgraded camera system. Its 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom was highlighted as one of the most attractive improvements in the new model.

In addition, the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset was considered a suitable match for the device, delivering solid performance without pushing the phone into flagship-level pricing territory.

Xiaomi 17T Pro Struggles to Justify Premium Cost

While the Xiaomi 17T Pro offers powerful hardware, many voters felt its pricing has entered a difficult segment of the market. The device now sits close to true flagship smartphones, making buyers more critical of its shortcomings.

One of the most frequently mentioned issues was the inclusion of a USB-C 2.0 port on a smartphone priced around €900. Users argued that such a specification feels outdated in a premium device, even though the phone supports 100W fast charging for its massive 7,000mAh battery.

Upgrades Seen as Too Incremental

Another factor affecting the Xiaomi 17T Pro’s reception is the relatively modest upgrade package compared to its predecessor. The most notable improvements include a larger battery, increased from 5,500mAh to 7,000mAh, and the newer MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor replacing the previous Dimensity 9400+.

For many potential buyers, these changes were not substantial enough to justify the higher launch price.

Discounts Could Change the Situation

Although the initial reaction has been lukewarm, the poll indicates that both smartphones could become far more competitive after future discounts. In particular, the Xiaomi 17T Pro may benefit significantly from price cuts, as many users still view it as a capable flagship-level device with strong battery life and performance.

For now, however, the consensus appears clear: Xiaomi delivered meaningful upgrades to the 17T series, but many buyers believe the new prices are simply too high.
