OpenAI has confirmed it will voluntarily follow a new artificial intelligence executive order introduced by President Donald Trump. According to George Osborne, the company’s head of countries, OpenAI is ready to cooperate with the new review framework.
The order allows the US government to access and review the latest AI models up to 30 days before they are officially released. However, it does not legally force companies to submit their models for approval.
Executive Order Was Softened After Public Response
The original draft of the executive order was more strict and proposed that AI companies must submit their models 90 days before public release.
However, after public criticism and reported doubts expressed by Donald Trump, the final version of the order was revised and made less restrictive.
OpenAI to Participate in AI Model Review Process
OpenAI has agreed to take part in a benchmarking process for its next-generation AI systems. This process will evaluate advanced capabilities, especially in cybersecurity, and help determine whether a model should be classified as a “covered frontier model.”
Focus on AI Safety and Global Oversight
Speaking at SXSW in London, George Osborne said OpenAI has already suggested ways for governments to monitor AI safety and security risks more effectively.
He also noted that this approach is not limited to the United States, but is intended to support broader international efforts to manage advanced AI development responsibly.
