Apple’s Upcoming Flagship May Break Price Barriers
Apple Inc. is reportedly preparing its next major flagship, the iPhone 20, expected to debut in 2027. Early reports suggest the device could become the most expensive iPhone ever, potentially limiting its accessibility for mainstream users.

Major Design Shift with Quad-Curved Display
The iPhone 20 is expected to introduce a completely new design approach. It may feature a quad-curved display combined with Apple’s new “Liquid Glass” interface. This setup aims to deliver a seamless, bezel-free visual experience unlike previous iPhone models.
However, this advanced display technology is complex to manufacture. Industry sources indicate that only one supplier is currently capable of producing these panels at scale.
Samsung Likely to Be Sole OLED Supplier Again
Samsung Electronics is expected to handle production of the quad-curved OLED displays. While LG Electronics remains part of Apple’s supply chain, Samsung is seen as better equipped for large-scale manufacturing and strict quality requirements.
Relying on a single supplier could significantly increase production costs. Apple may need to pay premium rates for each display unit, impacting the overall pricing strategy.
Rising Memory Costs Add More Pressure
Another concern is the increasing cost of memory components. Reports suggest that 8GB LPDDR5X RAM modules could cost around $180 each. This alone may account for nearly half of the device’s total production cost, further pushing the price upward.
Additionally, Apple CEO Tim Cook has highlighted concerns over limited DRAM availability, which may add further strain on pricing.
Echoes of the iPhone X Pricing Strategy
A similar situation occurred in 2017 with the launch of the iPhone X. At the time, it became Apple’s first $1,000 smartphone, largely due to high OLED panel costs from Samsung.
The iPhone 20 could follow a similar path. With exclusive supply agreements and cutting-edge features, Apple may once again set a new pricing benchmark.
Premium Positioning Expected
Despite higher costs, Apple is likely to market the iPhone 20 as a next-generation flagship. Its futuristic design and advanced display could serve as key selling points to justify the premium price.
While strong brand loyalty may drive demand, the expected price tag suggests the device may not be within reach for all consumers.
