iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Pre-Order Date Leaked Apple Could Skip September 11

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max on September 9, 2026, but the bigger surprise may come just days later. Instead of opening pre-orders on the usual Friday, Apple is rumored to move the iPhone 18 Pro pre-order date to Saturday, September 12.

The unusual timing is linked to September 11, which falls on the Friday immediately after Apple’s event. A similar scheduling decision happened in 2015, when Apple announced the iPhone 6s on September 9 and opened pre-orders on September 12. Current reports suggest Apple could repeat that pattern in 2026, potentially starting orders around midnight Pacific Time.

iPhone 18 Pro Pre-Order Date: What We Know

Apple’s September 9 event is now official, with the company expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone, widely rumored to be called the iPhone Ultra.

The important date is September 12. According to the latest reporting, Apple could begin accepting pre-orders for the Pro models on Saturday, September 12, rather than Friday, September 11. The move would mirror Apple’s unusual 2015 launch schedule.

Why September 12 Instead of September 11?

The reason is tied to the anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the United States. In 2015, Apple faced almost the exact same calendar situation: its iPhone event was held on Wednesday, September 9, while the normal Friday pre-order date landed on September 11.

Apple instead opened iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus pre-orders on Saturday, September 12, at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time. That historical precedent is the main reason the same schedule is being discussed for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

A20 Pro Could Be the Biggest Upgrade

One of the most significant rumored changes is Apple’s A20 Pro chipset. Reports indicate that the processor could be manufactured using TSMC’s first-generation 2nm process, moving Apple’s Pro iPhones beyond the current 3nm generation.

The smaller manufacturing process should allow Apple to improve performance and power efficiency at the same time. For users, that could mean faster demanding apps, improved gaming performance and better battery efficiency rather than simply higher benchmark numbers.

Smaller Dynamic Island Is Expected

Apple could also reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro models. Reports suggest that some Face ID components could move beneath the display, allowing Apple to shrink the visible area at the top of the screen.

This would not necessarily remove the Dynamic Island completely. Instead, Apple appears to be moving toward a less intrusive design while retaining the functionality introduced with recent iPhone generations.

Camera Upgrades Could Be More Important

The camera system is also expected to receive meaningful changes. Current rumors point toward three 48MP rear cameras, while the main Fusion camera could gain a variable aperture system.

A variable aperture would give the camera greater control over incoming light and depth of field. That could make the upgrade particularly interesting for photography enthusiasts, although the real-world improvement will depend heavily on Apple’s image-processing software.

C2 Modem and Satellite Connectivity

The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is also rumored to feature Apple’s next-generation C2 modem. Apple has already been developing its own cellular modem technology, and the C2 could bring further improvements in efficiency and connectivity.

Another reported upgrade is expanded satellite connectivity, potentially allowing certain forms of 5G or internet connectivity through satellites when traditional Wi-Fi and cellular networks are unavailable. This remains a rumor until Apple confirms it.

What About the iPhone Ultra?

The iPhone Ultra could be the most dramatic device at Apple’s September event, but it may not follow the same availability schedule as the Pro models.

Reports indicate that Apple’s foldable iPhone could face manufacturing constraints, meaning Apple may unveil it alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max but delay its actual pre-orders. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly suggested that the foldable model could arrive later, potentially in the fourth quarter of 2026.

That would create an unusual situation where Apple announces three premium iPhones together but releases them at different times.

Expected iPhone 18 Pro Release Date

If Apple follows the rumored schedule, pre-orders would begin on Saturday, September 12, followed by the retail launch on Friday, September 18. The timing is still a prediction rather than an official Apple announcement.

The biggest question is whether Apple will actually start pre-orders around 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time, as currently rumored, instead of its more familiar morning launch window.

The iPhone 18 Pro launch is shaping up to be more than a routine yearly upgrade, with a 2nm A20 Pro chip, smaller Dynamic Island and camera changes all rumored for Apple’s 2026 flagship. But the unusual September 12 pre-order date could be the first surprise Apple delivers. Would you pre-order the iPhone 18 Pro if Apple confirms this schedule?
