Huawei Mate XT 2 Pre-Orders Begin New Colors, 2TB Storage and Stylus Option Revealed

Huawei has officially opened pre-orders for the Huawei Mate XT 2 in China, revealing several key details ahead of its September 7 launch. The tri-folding flagship will arrive in three colors and multiple storage configurations, including a massive 2TB model bundled with a stylus.

The latest details also confirm a major design shift from the original Mate XT. Huawei is moving to an inward-folding mechanism and adding a dedicated cover screen, while the phone retains the distinctive octagonal camera module seen on its predecessor.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Colors Revealed

Huawei will offer the Mate XT 2 in Dark Black, Pure White, and Jin Purple. The latter is translated from the Chinese naming and gives the new tri-fold a more premium, distinctive option compared with conventional black and white finishes.

The company has also released additional visuals showing the smartphone from different angles. These images provide a much clearer look at its revised folding mechanism and overall construction.

A Different Tri-Fold Design

The biggest visual change is the move toward an inward-folding design. The original Huawei Mate XT and later Mate XTs used a different approach, making the Mate XT 2 noticeably different when folded and unfolded.

Huawei is also adding a cover display, giving users a more conventional smartphone-like experience when the device is closed. That could make everyday tasks more practical without requiring users to fully unfold the large flexible display.

Storage Options Go Up to 2TB

Huawei is offering the Mate XT 2 with 16GB of RAM across its listed configurations. The standard options include 512GB and 1TB of internal storage, while the range-topping version pushes capacity to an impressive 2TB.

The 16GB/2TB model will also come bundled with a stylus, making it the most feature-rich version in the lineup. For users who store large amounts of video, photos and work files locally, the extra capacity could be particularly useful.

Privacy Matte Display Variant

Huawei will additionally offer a privacy matte display version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. This variant appears aimed at users who want a more discreet viewing experience, particularly when using the phone in public environments.

The inclusion of a dedicated display finish gives buyers another reason to consider the premium configuration rather than simply choosing based on storage capacity.

Camera Design Takes Familiar Direction

The Mate XT 2 retains an octagonal rear camera module, similar to the camera housing used on the original Mate XT. Huawei appears to be maintaining this recognizable design language while upgrading the hardware underneath.

Reports have also pointed toward a rear camera system with similarities to the Huawei Mate X7, potentially bringing stronger imaging capabilities to the company’s next-generation tri-fold flagship.

Kirin 9050 Pro Could Power the Flagship

Under the hood, the Huawei Mate XT 2 is expected to use the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. If these reports prove accurate, the processor will be one of the key components defining Huawei’s performance strategy for its newest foldable.

The combination of a flagship Kirin platform and 16GB of RAM suggests Huawei is positioning the Mate XT 2 firmly at the premium end of the foldable market rather than treating it as an experimental device.

A Large 6,000mAh Battery Is Expected

Battery capacity could be another major upgrade. Current reports point to a 6,000mAh battery, which would be an important addition for a device with a large flexible display and demanding multitasking capabilities.

Tri-fold smartphones have unique power requirements because their larger screens can consume significantly more energy during extended use. A bigger battery could therefore help the Mate XT 2 maintain practical endurance despite its ambitious form factor.

September 7 Launch Is Just Ahead

Huawei has already confirmed that the Mate XT 2 will officially debut in China on September 7. With pre-orders now live, the company is revealing important details before the launch event rather than keeping the entire specification sheet under wraps.

The early information gives potential buyers a clearer picture of what to expect: three colors, up to 2TB of storage, 16GB RAM, a new inward-folding design, a cover display and a premium stylus-equipped configuration.

Huawei Is Refining Its Tri-Fold Strategy

The Mate XT 2 looks less like a first-generation experiment and more like Huawei’s attempt to refine the tri-fold concept into a more practical flagship. The inward-folding architecture and cover screen directly address how a tri-fold phone can work as an everyday device.

With the Kirin 9050 Pro, expected 6,000mAh battery and potentially upgraded cameras, Huawei is also targeting performance and usability alongside its headline-grabbing folding design.

Huawei has clearly made the Mate XT 2 more than a cosmetic refresh, with its redesigned folding mechanism, new cover screen and 2TB storage option standing out immediately. Will the Mate XT 2 become the most practical tri-fold smartphone yet? The September 7 launch should provide the answer.
