Pakistan’s import market for used smartphones is set to see a price hike after the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) revised customs values for several major brands. The updated valuation affects devices from Apple Inc., Samsung Electronics, Google, and OnePlus, resulting in higher PTA taxes on imported used phones.

Increased Customs Values for iPhone 15 Series
The revised customs values for the iPhone 15 lineup show a noticeable jump compared to previous rates. Earlier, the base iPhone 15 was valued at $310, while the iPhone 15 Plus stood at $320. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were listed at $390 and $460 respectively.
Under the new revision, these values have increased to $378 for the iPhone 15, $390 for the iPhone 15 Plus, $472 for the iPhone 15 Pro, and $505 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This upward adjustment directly raises the applicable PTA tax on each model.
Updated PTA Tax Estimates
With the revised valuation, the estimated PTA tax for the standard iPhone 15 now reaches around Rs. 46,500. Considering that non-PTA used units are currently sold between Rs. 100,000 and Rs. 130,000, the total cost of PTA-approved imports may climb to Rs. 150,000–180,000 or more.
For the iPhone 15 Plus, the updated valuation suggests a PTA tax of roughly Rs. 47,000. Since its market price aligns closely with the base model, the final cost for PTA-approved units is also expected to fall within the Rs. 150,000–180,000 range.
The iPhone 15 Pro sees a sharper increase due to its higher customs value of $472. This brings its PTA tax estimate to approximately Rs. 51,300. When added to the existing non-PTA market price of Rs. 150,000–180,000, the final cost could reach Rs. 200,000–230,000 or beyond.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 Pro Max experiences the steepest jump. With a revised value of $505, the PTA tax is estimated at around Rs. 80,500. Given that non-PTA units currently sell for Rs. 180,000–200,000, newly imported PTA-approved devices may cost between Rs. 260,000 and Rs. 280,000 or higher.
Market Impact
The revised customs values are expected to significantly impact Pakistan’s grey market, where used imported smartphones remain popular. Higher PTA taxes may reduce affordability and shift buyer preference toward locally available or officially imported devices.
Industry observers believe that continued adjustments in valuation could further reshape pricing trends in the country’s smartphone market in the coming months.
