Apple Reportedly Delaying 5G Support in Pakistan
Apple is expected to enable 5G support for iPhones in Pakistan in 2027, according to recent reports. Until then, iPhone users in the country may continue using only 4G services despite the ongoing expansion of 5G networks.
Officials from the Ministry of IT and Telecom revealed that Apple is currently reviewing the Pakistani market before officially activating 5G compatibility for local users. The company reportedly wants to assess the country’s market potential and demand for iPhones.

High Taxes Affecting Apple’s Market Growth
Industry experts believe that Pakistan’s heavy taxes on imported smartphones have slowed Apple’s growth in the region. Premium pricing on iPhones has reduced the overall customer base, making the market less attractive for the company.
While Apple has delayed 5G access, Samsung smartphones and several Android devices already support 5G services in Pakistan. This has given Android brands an early advantage in the country’s next-generation mobile market.
Pakistan’s $507 Million 5G Spectrum Auction
Earlier this year, Pakistan completed a major 5G spectrum auction worth $507 million. The government organized the auction in March to improve internet speeds, network performance, and digital connectivity across the country.
Although authorities initially aimed to sell 597 MHz of spectrum, the auction concluded with 480 MHz successfully sold. Telecom operators Jazz, Zong, and Ufone secured frequencies to prepare for nationwide 5G rollout.
PTA Shares Spectrum Allocation Details
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the auction included spectrum from several important frequency bands. These included the 700 MHz, 2,300 MHz, 2,600 MHz, and 3,500 MHz bands.
A total of two lots in the 700 MHz band, five lots in the 2,300 MHz band, 19 lots in the 2,600 MHz band, and 22 out of 28 lots in the 3,500 MHz band were sold during the auction.
Jazz Becomes the Largest Spectrum Buyer
Jazz emerged as the biggest buyer in Pakistan’s 5G auction by securing 190 MHz of spectrum. The company acquired frequencies across multiple bands to strengthen its future 5G services.
Its allocation included 50 MHz in the 3,500 MHz band, 70 MHz in the 2,600 MHz band, 50 MHz in the 2,300 MHz band, and 20 MHz in the 700 MHz band.
Telecom Operators Preparing for 5G Rollout
Telecom industry officials have confirmed that operators have already ordered equipment required for commercial 5G deployment. Some telecom companies have also started limited testing in selected areas where network infrastructure has been installed.
With preparations underway, Pakistan is moving closer to wider 5G availability, although iPhone users may need to wait until 2027 for official Apple support.
