Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 Renders Leak, Teasing a Massive 4-inch External Display

Samsung is actively working on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, expected to launch in the third quarter of this year, likely in September. Following last year’s timeline, the new model is anticipated to bring a major design shift, as revealed by recent leaks and renders.

The biggest change appears to be in the cover screen. Initially, reports suggested that the Flip 7 would retain the same outer panel as its predecessor. However, the latest update contradicts this, confirming that Samsung has scrapped the old, uneven external panel.

According to leaks, the Flip 7 will now feature a full-size cover display, stretching across the entire upper half of the rear panel and even wrapping around the camera lenses. The previous design, dubbed the “Gumpy Cut” by leakers due to its irregular shape around the cameras, has been completely abandoned.

Samsung seems to be taking inspiration from Motorola’s Razr+ by introducing a seamless, edge-to-edge outer screen. On the Razr+, this display offers near-complete functionality, allowing users to operate the device without unfolding it. If Samsung follows a similar approach, it could significantly enhance usability and even impact the pricing of its foldable lineup.

Historically, Samsung has restricted the Flip’s cover screen to widgets, toggles, and a limited set of apps, encouraging users to open the device for primary tasks. It remains to be seen whether the company will expand its functionality this year.

Leaked renders suggest that the previous 3.6-inch folder-style cover screen will be replaced with a larger 4-inch display. Even if full functionality isn’t introduced, users can expect larger widgets, improved notification visibility, and enhanced preview options.

Samsung’s decision to revamp the cover screen comes after years of user complaints about its limited usability. The backlash against the Flip 6’s restrictive outer display likely played a role in this major design shift.

Before the Galaxy Z Flip 7 arrives, Samsung is expected to roll out Android 15 with One UI 7 for the Flip 6. This update might hint at some of the software changes coming to the Flip 7, particularly regarding cover screen functionality. Stay tuned for further updates as the launch date approaches.
