Samsung is all set to host its next Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9th. One of the biggest highlights will be the debut of a new tri-folding phone, expected to be called the Galaxy G Fold. This upcoming model was quietly revealed through an animation found deep within the One UI 8 firmware. What caught everyone’s attention was how closely it resembles Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept.

Interestingly, Tecno teased its tri-fold concept phone, the Phantom Ultimate G Fold, just hours before Samsung’s event—almost like an open challenge. Judging by the teaser images, the Tecno concept appears nearly ready for commercial release.
Unlike Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate, Tecno’s Phantom G Fold uses a unique folding system. It features two hinges—one smaller and one larger—on a single continuous display. When closed, the screen folds into a shape that resembles the letter “G”.
Android Authority recently reported a similar folding mechanism found in Samsung’s animation. Their version has the outer display placed in the middle, rather than at the edge like Tecno’s design. Although the Samsung model’s name is still unofficial, it’s clear they’re working on something advanced.
It’s still too early to say which design works better for a tri-fold phone. However, Samsung is known for thoroughly testing its devices before launching them. For now, you can check out the leaked images of Tecno’s Phantom G Fold shared by Ice Universe to get an idea of what Samsung’s version might look like.
Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer. The Galaxy Unpacked event happens on July 9th, and all eyes are on the reveal of the Galaxy G Fold, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
In addition to the tri-fold model, there’s also speculation about a new Fan Edition (FE) version of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. We’re still confirming whether it will launch at the event or arrive later, possibly alongside other FE products in October.
