Apple is rumored to be exploring a new type of phone that prioritizes a slim design, sparking speculation about the potential release of the “Apple iPhone 17 Air.” Numerous leaks and reports suggest that this device could push the limits of Apple’s design and innovation.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature an ultra-thin chassis, but this design choice will likely come at the expense of battery capacity. With limited space for components, a smaller battery seems inevitable, though its exact capacity remains uncertain.
Apple reportedly aims for the iPhone 17 Air to have a 6.25mm profile, significantly thinner than the 6.9mm iPhone 6, which struggled with poor battery life due to its 1810mAh battery. This design challenge appears even more pronounced for the iPhone 17 Air.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the iPhone 17 Air will be 2mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, which measures 8.25mm thick. This would make it one of the slimmest smartphones ever at just 6.25mm. Gurman’s reputation as a reliable source for Apple leaks adds credibility to this claim.
Reports also suggest Apple might achieve this sleek design by further optimizing PCB components, making them more compact to free up space for the battery. Additionally, Apple’s first in-house 5G modem is expected to play a key role in supporting the device’s ultra-thin profile.
